READING, Pa. - Eastern Men's Track and Field opened its 2025 schedule at the Alvernia Winter Invitational on Saturday. Sophomore
Ni'Male Greenwood recorded another record-breaking performance in the 60m and recorded a second-place finish in the 200m, while fellow sophomore
Foday Koroma set a new program record in the weight throw with a distance of 12.50m. Furthermore, three other Eagles recorded top-eight finishes, and three Eastern relay teams also finished in the top-eight.
After qualifying for the 60m finals, Greenwood sprinted to a third-place finish, a new program record, and a top-20 national time of 6.88 seconds. He surpassed his own record, when he ran a 6.97 at the Susquehanna Early-Season Multi and Invitational.
Koroma's 12.50 meter throw surpasses the program record previously held by Anthony Fernandez, who has held it since 2018.Â
Daniel Franklin finished third in the 60m hurdles, clocking in at 8.72,
Donovan Skinner also ran a MAC qualifying time of 9.25, placing 11th in the event.
In his second event of the day, Greenwood went on to place second in the 200m with a time of 22.78, while first-year
Kojo Cunningham finished fifth, running a MAC qualifying time of 23.62. Sophomore
James Ugorji finished seventh in the 400m with a MAC qualifying time of 53.12.
In the relays, the 4x200 team of
Jason Bateman, Franklin,
Austin Boddie, and Greenwood finished fourth with a time of 1:35.09, good for a top-10 program finish. In the 4x800,
Astin Daniel,
Ryle Mellinger,
Robert Walton, and
Levi Weir placed fifth with a time of 8:20.91. Finally, in the 4x400,
Keyon Jones,
ShaMar Davis, Skinner, and
Cameron Baker placed fifth with a time of 3:41.65.
In the jumps, Jones placed seventh in the High Jump at 1.86 m,
Elijah McCullough finished eighth in the Long Jump at 6.38m,
Jeric Lewis placed eighth in the Triple Jump at 12.77m.
Along with Korma's record-breaking throw, first-year
Nicholas Bensavage now sits second on the all-time list, finishing in fifth with a distance of 12.08m, and
Derrick Swain sits third with a throw of 12.07m.
"Today was good. It was our first time in over a month getting a chance to compete and knock some of the winter break rust off," Eastern Head Coach
Will Mills said. "The staff and I are happy with the effort we saw from everyone and look forward to next week."
Eastern Men's Track and Field will be back in action next weekend for a pair of events. Per the schedule, some members will compete at the Widener DIII Invitational at the Ott Center at Penn on Friday, while others will compete at the Coach I Open at Franklin & Marshall on Saturday.
