Four Earn All-MAC Commonwealth Baseball Recognition

NEWTOWN, Pa. - The Middle Atlantic Conference today announced the 2024 All-Conference teams and special awards for baseball. Fresh off its 20-win season, Eastern Baseball had four players earn All-MAC Commonwealth recognition. John Westfield was named Second-Team All-MAC Commonwealth, while John Beck, Luke Meehan, and Evan Barks were all Honorable Mention All-Conference selections.

Westfield earned his first All-MAC Commonwealth selection as a relief pitcher. In 28 innings pitched, he posted a 1-2 record and a 2.25 ERA, which was tied for the best mark amongst the Eastern pitching staff. Additionally, the Northeast Philadelphia product struck out 17 batters and allowed just seven earned runs in his 10 appearances. He earned his second career win in Eastern's season finale against Stevenson on April 27, giving up just three hits in 3.2 innings of work.

Beck earned his second straight All-Conference selection after making the Second-Team last season. In 10 starts and a career-high 61.2 innings pitched, the senior from Butler, N.J. finished with a 4-5 record and 3.94 ERA, striking out 47 batters and holding opposing hitters to a career-low .222 batting average. In the conference, Beck was third in opposing batting average, sixth in strikeouts, and eighth in ERA. In his final start, Beck tied his career-high with 10 strikeouts in a complete-game performance against Stevenson . After a successful four-year career with the Eagles, Beck ranks tied for second in wins with 12, fourth in strikeouts with 130, and sixth in ERA at 4.77.

Meehan, a sophomore transfer from Arcadia, was named Honorable Mention All-Conference as a first baseman. The Allentown product put together an excellent first season for the Eagles, batting at a .333 clip with a 1.074 OPS, 15 runs, 27 hits, eight doubles, five home runs, 21 RBIs, and a .617 slugging percentage. He led the Eagles in home runs, two of which came in back-to-back at bats against York on March 22 to help Eastern clinch the season series against the Spartans. Additionally, he ranked second in RBIs and slugging percentage, third in OPS and doubles, and fourth in hits. In the conference, he ranked fifth in slugging percentage, and seventh in OPS and home runs.

Barks earned Honorable Mention All-Conference honors for the second straight season after another stout offensive campaign. The senior from Elkton, Md. set multiple career-highs and led the Eagles in multiple categories, including runs scored (27), hits (50), doubles (11), triples (two), RBIs (24), and total bases (65). After hitting .417 this season, Barks holds the seventh and ninth best batting averages in a single season ever after hitting .419 in his junior campaign. In the conference, Barks ranked third in batting average, sixth in on-base percentage (.496),  and ninth in doubles. He finished with seven three-hit games, including a three-hit, four RBI day in his final home game against Stevenson on April 26. Barks ends his Eastern tenure with a career .410 batting average, surpassing Phil DelBrocco for the highest in program history.
