SELINSGROVE, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Track and Field set three new program records and had 11 new MAC Qualifying efforts at the Susquehanna early-season meet.
Ni'Male Greenwood and
Donovan Skinner each set program-records.
Skinner started his work in the Heptathlon yesterday afternoon. The sophomore's first attempt at the Multi had several solid moments and some space to make up points in future events. His 3859 total broke Hayden Rountree's 3602 effort and puts him right in podium range for the league championships. This event was his first collegiate Long Jump, Shot Put, 60 Meter Dash, Pole Vault, and 1000 Meter Run. With all that activity, Skinner was off his PR's in high jump and hurdles.
Greenwood became the first Eastern runner to break the seven second mark in the 60 Meter dash. his 6.97 is the fastest time posted in the MAC this year and puts him just outside the National Top-20. The winning time at last-season's MAC Championship was 6.97. It took a 6.84 to reach nationals. With today's events featuring flights rather than prelims and finals, Greenwood will have to wait until after the new year to cut into his time.
Greenwood also broke his own program mark with a 22.61 in the 200 Meters.
Zachary Howard, Joseph Blake, and Lee also ran MAC qualifying times in the race.
Cameron Baker and Keyon Jones along with Alexander Lee ran MAC Qualifying times in the 400.
Jones also posted a qualifying mark with a 1.87 meter high jump. Fellow first-year Lawrence Day was the top collegiate finisher in than event with a 1.92 meter effort. That height, with fewer misses, would have put Day atop the podium at last year's MAC Championships.
With most of the distance group ina a reset phase after the Cross Country season, the Eagles had five guys run just outside the MAC qualifying time in the 3,000 Meters.
Nick Bensavagee threw a MAC Qualifying 11.16 Meters in the Weight throw, Derrick Swain posted another strong effort with a 12.53 meter toss in Shot Put, and Jeric Lewis hit a qualifying mark of 12.46 meters. in the Triple Jump.
"Donovan and Janitza competing in the combined events on Friday night really energized the team to have some great performances on Saturday," said Head Coach
Will Mills after the event. "This was a great way to end the semester and the staff and I are incredibly excited to get back to work with the athletes in January."
The Eagles will have over a month to prep for their next meet, where they will compete at the Alvernia Winter Invitational.
