READING, Pa - On Saturday, Women's Track and Field competed in their first event of 2024 at the Alvernia Winter Invite at The PLEX. The Eagles had an impressive day of work with multiple MAC qualifying times and top-five performances.
First-year thrower
Savana Dodd finished first in both Shot Put (11.43m) and Weight Throw (14.09m). Dodd's performances today notched her school records in both events.
Eastern's 4x800 Meter Relay team of
Hailey Shreffler,
Rainee Wright,
Queen-Roszia Davis, and
Jennifer Fischli took first (11:05.33). In the 4x400 Meter Relay,
Janitza Hernandez-Albino,
Samantha Peters, Shreffler, and Fischli also finished first (4:26.18).
To finish the day, Peters qualified in both her events, as she finished sixth in the 200 Meter Dash (27.99) and third in the 400 Meter Dash (1:03.34). Shreffler qualified in the 1 Mile Run with a fourth-place finish (5:42.77), Hernandez-Albino qualified in the 60 Meter Hurdles in seventh (10.84),
Paige Carpenter finished fourth in Pole Vault with a qualifying height of 3.15m, while
Divora Bekele qualified in the Long Jump (4.60m) with a seventh-place finish.Â
"Today was very exciting to watch," Eastern Head Coach
Will Mills said. "We saw some great performances coming off the long winter break and we even had some school records fall. Today was a good indication of things to come for the rest of the season."
Eastern Women's Track and Field will be back in action next week Jan. 27 for the Mini-Dip Invitational. Events began at 10 am.
