ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - Eastern Men's Soccer Head Coach Luca Mellor and his staff have announced a 16-game schedule for the 2023 season. The Eagles' schedule feature nine road contests, seven home matches, and a seven-game conference slate.
The Eagles open the campaign at Olson Field on Friday, Sept. 1 against Eastern Mennonite University. It will be the fifth all-time meeting between the two schools, and the first since 2005. Eastern won that contest, 5-2, in Harrisonburg, Va.
From there, the Eagles will embark on a five-match road trip, beginning with Rutgers-Camden on Sept. 2. Eastern holds a 17-13-3 mark over the Scarlet Raptors, but have lost the last four matchups dating back to 2012. The Eagles' last victory over Rutgers-Camden came back in 2011, a 1-0 triumph at Olson Field.
The Eagles will then play Penn State Berks for the first time in program history on Sept. 6, before making the trek to Long Island to take on Farmingdale State on Sept. 9. The Eagles won their lone matchup with the Rams back on Sept. 6, 2021 on an overtime penalty kick goal from recent graduate
Emmanuel Hewitt.
Eastern returns to Pennsylvania to take on Cairn on Sept. 12, before wrapping up its season-long road trip across the street against Eagle Road rival Cabrini on Sept. 16. The Eagles are unbeaten in their last 17 matches against the Highlanders dating back to 1988. Eastern also boasts a one-match edge over Cabrini, but lost its last matchup with the Cavaliers, 2-1, at Olson Field last fall.
The Eagles finally return home on Sept. 19 for a matchup with MAC Freedom foe Delaware Valley, their first against the Aggies since 2019. Eastern came away with a 3-0 victory in Doylestown back in October of 2019. Next, Eastern travels to New Jersey to take on Centenary. The Eagles hold a 13-0-1 record against the Cyclones, which included a 4-0 victory last September at Olson Field. Eastern then wraps up its non-conference schedule on Sept. 27 against Neumann at home.
The Eagles kick off their conference slate on Sept. 30 at Hood, before returning to Olson Field for their home conference opener on Oct. 7 against Alvernia. Eastern defeated Hood, 7-1, and tied Alvernia, 2-2, in 2022.
On Homecoming weekend, the Eagles will host reigning MAC Commonwealth champion Messiah on Oct. 13. The last time the two teams met at Olson Field was back in 2021, when the Falcons took home a 3-2 double overtime victory.
After a trek to York on Oct. 18, the Eagles will play two more home games against Stevenson on Oct. 21 and Widener on Oct. 24. Eastern will then close out its regular season on Oct. 28 at Albright.
All of Eastern's home games will be streamed live on MACtv.
