Sarah Fowler to Lead Eastern Women's Basketball

ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Athletic Director Eric McNelley announced that Sarah Fowler will lead Eastern University Women's Basketball. Fowler comes to Eastern after a short stint playing overseas and working in three successful Division I Programs.

"I am thrilled to introduce Coach Fowler as our next Head Coach for Women's Basketball," McNelley said. "She emerged from a very competitive pool of candidates as the right person to lead the program. She was a successful student-athlete, and she has worked at the highest level of collegiate Women's Basketball. Having successful experience in three outstanding programs, she has a clear vision for taking our program forward."

"The committee was impressed," he continued. "With her focus on player development, character building, and spiritual formation as part of an integral plan for program development. She will hold our program to high standards of excellence that will translate to success on and off the court."

Fowler played at Saint Joseph's and was named the 2015-16 Big-5 Scholar Athlete of the Year. She was also honored to receive the Class of 1950 award at graduation. In her playing career, she became just the second SJU player to score more than 1,000 points, grab more than 600 rebounds, and block more than 100 shots.

After graduation, she earned an MS in Business Administration from the Dublin City University in Ireland and played a season of professional basketball in Greece.

She returned to the United States to work as an assistant coach. She began at Colgate before returning to Saint Joe's for an extended stint on their basketball staff. She spent the last two years on the Staff at Robert Morris University. There, she had an expanded role in on-court instruction and was involved in all aspects of the program.

She and her husband have been involved in a church plant in in Pittsburgh.

Fowler will begin building a staff, connecting with the returning players on the roster, and finishing a recruiting class immediately.
