Eastern University Football welcomes the College at Florham Devils and their fans to Franklin Field for the team's 2023 home finale. Though still away from home, the Eagles have had a level of comfort in the historic venue. With a 21-9 homecoming win two weeks ago, Eastern is 2-1 at home this season. Their lone loss in University season came in week three to the league-leading Delaware Valley University Aggies.
The Eagles come in to today's game off a tough 28-18 loss at King's last week.
Brett Nabb threw for 228 yards and a pair of fourth-quarter touchdowns, but the Eagles saw a pair of early drives stall in the red zone and the Monarchs built an early lead that proved to be too much for the young Eastern squad to overcome.
After three straight rainy games, the Eastern receivers were pleased to see the sun shining
Nassik Smith backed up his two touchdown performance against Albright with six catches for 89 yards and a touchdown at King's.
Eddie Swinton had seven grabs, and
Izayah Guy-Bruton caught a touchdown.
FDU-Florham also has wins over Albright and Alvernia. This past weekend, the Devils opened up a 38-3 lead and held on for a 41-16 home win over Alvernia. Ryan Thomas completed 21-of-26 passes for 182 yards and three touchdowns. Nayson Brown and Kwanir Edwards combined for 136 yards on 26 carries. Edwards leads the MAC with nearly 700 yards on the ground. Anthony Bilotta led the Devils with five catches for 62 yards and a touchdown. FDu had seven players catch passes in the game.
Even as the Eagles ran more plays than the Monarchs,
Gashawn Moody still found his way to get into 12 tackles. The junior from Philadelphia is leading the MAC with 11.4 tackles per contest. Through seven games, he has eight more tackles than any other defensive player in the league. Matt Heineman leads the Devils with seven tackles a game.
The Devils allow 20.3 points per contest and are averaging 20.4 on offense. Teams have rushed for 4.1 yards per attempt. The Eastern defense has defended 300 rushing plays this year and held opponents to 3.6 yards a carry.
For the home finale, Eastern University Football encourages fans to 'Get in the Game' and become part of the
Be The Match Registry. The life saving program creates a registry of potential stem cell donors. There will be an information table and an opportunity for individuals to register. Last year, Eastern Football and Field Hockey combined on an on-campus drive that produced over 300 new registrants.
The Eagles will be at Widener next weekend before wrapping up their inaugural campaign at Stevenson on Nov. 11. The Devils are at LVC next weekend before finishing the year at home against Misericordia.
