Box Score ABINGTON, Pa.– Eastern University Women's Tennis won the first five matches of the afternoon at Penn State Abington to claim a 5-4 non-league win over the Lions.
Emma Paugh set the tone for the Eagles with wins in both her singles and doubles match.
Paugh teamed with
Laura Thomas to claim a close 8-6 win a the first doubles spot. Thomas, who is recovering from injury is only playing doubles until she is cleared to play more.
"Laura really played well today, " Head Coach
Mark Spangler said. "As should happen in doubles, there were times where both players made plays to pick up the other one. Laura had one of her best days of the spring. We are looking forward to her getting more healthy."
Spangler and his squad have been working on doubles throughout the spring, and that work paid off as the Eagles swept all three of those matches. Lauren good and
Shannon Jugler won 8-4 at the second doubles spot, and
Leslie Henry and
Olivia Weaver won 8-5 at the third spot.
Emily Thomas earned a quick 6-4, 6-3 win at fourth singles to bring the Eagles to within a point of clinching the match. Paugh secured the victory with a 6-4, 6-1 iwn moments later.
Both Lauren good and
Leslie Henry fell in super-tiebreakers. Good had a volley go just wide on a match point before falling 11-9 in the decisive frame.
The Eagles open MAC Freedom competition at FDU-Florham on Saturday.
