Box Score ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - Eastern Men's Tennis defeated visiting Hood College on Monday afternoon by the final score of 7-2. The victory moved the Eagles to 7-6 on the season.
Grant Williams and
Kyle Berner earned the first doubles match by a score of 8-4. With the win, Willams and Berner move to 5-2 on the season recording their third win in a row. "Kyle led the way at first doubles controlling many points with his forehand from the baseline," said Head Coach
Mark Spangler. "He also did a very nice job of playing at the net to earn the win."
Jackson Wetherbee and Williams each battled in their singles matches but managed to pull out the win for Eastern. Williams took the opening set of the first singles match 6-4 but dropped the second 6-3. He would go on to dominate in the third set claiming it by the score of 6-1. Wetherbee battled to a three-set win as well rallying to win the last two sets after dropping the first one.
"Jackson and Grant showed some grit in outlasting their opponent in 3 sets on a warm day," continued Spangler.
Berner took the second single match in straight sets winning by scores of 7-5 and 6-2. "Kyle trailed in his singles match 5-2, but he then went on to win 11 of the next 13 games to win convincingly," stated Spangler. The win moved Berner to 4-3 for the season in singles.
Eastern will travel to Delaware Valley on April 23rd for a 1 pm match.
