Box Score IMMACULATA, Pa. - Eastern Men's Tennis recorded a clean sweep of its competition for the second match in a row defeating Immaculata 9-0 on Monday afternoon. The Eagles dominated start to finish to claim the victory.
"We won pretty handily on all courts today," said Head Coach
Mark Spangler. "It was a solid overall team win today."
In doubles,
Grant Williams and Kyle Brener started off Eastern (2-3) with a win claiming an 8-4 victory. "Kyle had a great day and did a nice job of dictating play from the baseline," stated Spangler.
Mitchell Weaver and
Jackson Wetherbee moved the Eagles to 2-0 on the day when they claimed an 8-6 victory over Immaculata's (1-3) John Binner and Stephen Smith.
Vusisizwe Ntonga and
Ryan Ellison rounded out the doubles victories for Eastern claiming an 8-4 win.
In the singles matches, Willams won in straight sets 6-1, 6-2 defeating the Mighty Macs Patrick Tierno. Berner and Weaver also won in straight sets claiming 6-1, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-1 victories respectively.
Wetherbee rallied back in his singles match to claim the win. After falling behind, 4-6 Wetherbee rallied back to win the second set 6-1 and the third and final set 10-5.
Ntonga and Ellison rounded out the victories for the Eagles in their singles matches claiming straight set wins 6-4, 6-2 and 6-2, 6-2 respectively. "Vusi served well, had a few aces and played well in both singles and doubles," continued Spangler.
"Overall, I am very pleased with how we played and how we played together in doubles," concluded Spangler. "We have done some great things that last two matches, and I am really happy with how the guys have played and competed in each match."
Eastern travels to Penn State Abbington on March 30th for a 3 pm match.
