Box Score ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - Eastern Men's Tennis claimed its first victory of the spring defeating visiting Neumann University 9-0 on Wednesday afternoon. The Eagles dominated start to finish to cruise the victory.
Grant Williams and
Kyle Berner got Eastern (1-3) off to a great start claiming the opening doubles match by a final of 8-5. "Grant performed well as did Kyle," said Head Coach
Mark Spangler. "Kyle played a very solid and clean match, playing great at the net and returned shots extremely well."
Mitchell Weaver and
Jackson Wetherbee dominated in their doubles match cruising to an easy 8-1 victory. "Both of these guys played outstanding in their match," continued Spangler. "They were patient with their shots and did a great job of exploiting the mistakes made by their opponents."
Both Williams and Berner also dominated their singles matches winning by scores of 6-1, 6-0 and 6-2, 6-1 respectively. "Grant played a great baseline game in his singles match," stated Spangler. "He controlled the tempo and kept every shot in front of him."
Vusisizwe Ntonga and Wetherbee each claimed the first singles wins of their careers on Wednesday. Ntonga defeated his opponent in straight sets by scores of 6-1, 6-1 while Wetherbee also won in straight sets by scores of 6-0, 6-0. "I couldn't be happier for both guys," said Spangler. "They played solid from start to finish and earned their wins today."
Overall Spangler was pleased with what he saw out of his team saying, "we really played well today as a team and after a tough loss over spring break we needed a win like this."
Eastern travels to Immaculata on March 21st for a 3:30 pm match.
