ST. DAVIDS, Pa.--Eastern University Men's Tennis edged the Misericordia University Cougars 5-4 in Freedom Conference action on Thursday afternoon.
The Eagles led off with an 8-3 win in No. 1 doubles by Grant Williams and Kyle Berner, but fell in the next two doubles matches 8-1, 8-3.
Williams and Berner were victorious in their singles matches as well. Williams powered past Misericordia's No. 1 player 6-0, 6-3. Berner fought off the No. 2 opponent 7-5 in the first set and then cruised to a 6-1 win in the second set.
Berner is 5-1 in his singles and doubles matches this week.
Eastern's No. 3 Mitchell Weaver had a critical comeback in his third set. Weaver took the first set 6-4 and lost the next set by the reciprocal score. In the third set, Weaver trailed three games to two, but won the next four games in a row.
In the No. 5 singles game, Christian Torres helped lock up the match for the Eagles with a 7-6 (7-5), 6-4 win.
Eastern travels to FDU-Florham on Saturday for an 11 a.m. conference match.
