MEDIA, Pa.--Eastern University Men's Basketball crushed the PSU Brandywine Lions by 60 points on Wednesday night while scoring a program record of points.
The Eastern Eagles defeated the Lions 115-55, breaking the program's record (since joining the NCAA in 1992) of points scored in a single game. Several reserve players led the Eagles' winning effort, taking advantage of their extended playing time, and the Eagles' bench outscored the Lions' bench 68-4. Guard Maxx Sweet tallied his first points as an Eagle with a pair of free throws midway through the first half. With that out of the way, Sweet went on to score a game-high 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting. Sweet made four 3-pointers and also grabbed seven rebounds.
Five other Eagles joined Sweet in double figures. Shaun Thomas also shot 7-for-12 and finished with 17 points. Austin Carroll finished 7-of-8 shots to contribute 16 points in 10 minutes. Justin Lenzer knocked down three 3-pointers and added 13 points. Tarek Hamzeh hit all three of his 3-pointers and both of his free throws to chip in 11 points in eight minutes. Anthony Parenti added 10 points and seven rebounds in 14 minutes. The six Eagles with double-digit points shot a combined 34-for-50 (68 percent).
Overall, the Eagles shot 56.3 percent from the floor and limited the Lions to 27.5 percent shooting. The Lions struggled to connect from long distance and shot a woeful 3-for-27 (11.1 percent) from 3-point range. Eastern won the turnover battle committing just 12 turnovers and while forcing 26 Lions' turnovers.
Eastern controlled Wednesday night's game from wire to wire, outscoring the Lions by an even 30 points in each half.
