ST. DAVIDS, Pa.- After dropping a heartbreaking 9-7
decision at No. 1 doubles, Eastern Unviersity Men's Tennis rallied to
take the final eight matches for an 8-1 non-league win over
visiting Neumann University.
Tyler Hoagland and Johnny Shenk led
7-6 at the top doubles spot, but Neumann's top pair broke serve twice to
take the match. The Eastern duo then rallied to control play in their
singles matches. Shenk was dominant at third singles with an
overpowering 6-0, 6-0 win.
Hoagland, on the other hand, had a
battle with Neumann's Dustin Broom. Eastern's left-handed ace came
through with a 7-5, 6-2 win. Tyler Schultz earned a hard-fought 6-3, 7-6
(7-2) win at the second singles spot.
"The two Tylers had really
quality singles wins today," Head Coach Mark Spangler said after the
match, "they earned tough points against a pair of really solid players.
That gives us some momentum and confidence as we go into this weekend."
Schultz
and Mylon Weaver earned an 8-6 win at second doubles, and Herschel Dube
and Codie Todd battled to a 9-8 (7-4) win at the third doubles spot.
Dube, Weaver, and Todd each earned singles wins as well.
Eastern is back in action on Saturday with a home match against perennial Freedom Conference power Manhattanville.
