ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - Eastern University Men's Tennis earned a
tough 6-3 home win over Alvernia in non-league action today. The win is
the first of the fall for the Eagles (1-1).
Sophomore Ryan Dykstra
was the top double-winner for the Eagles as he rolled to a 6-1, 6-1 win
at fourth singles and teamed with Tyler Schultz to earn a hard-fought
win at second doubles.
Shultz and fellow first year Mylon Weaver also earned two points for the home squad.
Head Coach Mark Spangler was liberal with his praise for Dykstra and his work in the critical doubles match.
"Ryan
held sever in that match," Spangler stated, "and that was big for us.
He has a big serve, and he was on it today. He played really well in his
singles match also."
Senior Bryan Arnett battled to a 6-0, 6-4 win at the top singles spot to continue his strong play.
"Bryan
is playing really well now," Spangler added, "He is ready physically
and mentally to be a top singles player. When he walks on the court he
expects to win.
The Eagles have a home match against Albright this Monday before finishing the fall at the MAC Individual Tournament.
