ST. DAVIDS, Pa.- Eastern University Men's Tennis earned a second straight victory with a solid 7-2 win over FDU-Florham in this morning's Freedom Conference opener. Michael Roth, Bryan Arnett, and Ryan Dykstra were each double winners on the day.

The early morning start did not go quite as planned as only one match went off at 10:30. It turned out to be a fortunate turn of events that second doubles was the match that started early as Eastern's Dan Wilson and FDu's Kevin Ly would be on the court for much of the day in a pair of extended matche. Ly teamed with Kevin Kostak to earn the Devils a doubles point with an 8-6 win, but Wilson would rally for a marathon 4-6, 6-4, 10-4 win in a super-breaker at third singles. That match concluded well over three hours after the start of proceedings.

Roth and Arnett rolled through first doubles with an 8-1 win, but each encountered more difficulty in their singles' contests. Roth battled to a 6-4, 6-2 win at the top spot. Tyler Hoagland won 6-1,6-1 at the fourth spot and Dykstra, after teaming with Jonny Shenk for an 8-1 victory at third double, earned a decisive 6-2, 6-1 win at the sixth spot.

"I thought Michael really battled at the top spot," Head Coach Mark Spangler said after the match," and Dan really battled back after an off day in doubles. Michael was able to control points from the baseline."

The Eagles (5-3, 1-0 Freedom) have a pair of non-league matches midweek before returning to Freedom Play on Saturday at Manhattnaville College.
