Nearly two weeks after their first match of the 2010 season in Hilton Head, S.C. the men's tennis team returned to action on Tuesday against Rosemont College in a non-conference match. The Eagles dominated the match from start to finish with a 9-0 sweep over the visiting Ravens.
Jordan Gates and Tyler Hoagland set the tone early with an 8-0 win at first doubles. Moments later, Bryan Arnett and Dan Wilson gave the Eagles a 2-0 lead with an 8-1 win at second doubles. Jonny Shenk and Chris Clark completed the doubles sweep with an 8-2 win at third doubles. The win at third doubles was the first collegiate win for Clark.
In singles play, Eastern posted three straight set shut out victories at first, second and sixth singles. Picking up those wins were Gates playing in the top singles spot, Arnett at second singles, and Shenk at sixth singles. In addition, the Eagles did not drop a set in the entire match.
"It was good to start off our home schedule with a win," remarked head coach Mark Spangler after the match. "We were able to get our feet wet a little. Hopefully this match will be able to prepare us well for a tough non-conference match tomorrow against Neumann."
The Eagles return to action at 3:00 PM against the defending CSAC Champion Knights.
