Men's Tennis Picks Up First Win

Box Score

The Eastern men's tennis team opened up their non-traditional season bright and early Saturday morning. They also picked up their first win of the 2009-2010 season by up-ending the Nittany Lions from PSU Abington 6-3.

Singles play was the key to the Eagles victory, as five out of the six matches were won by Eastern. Jordan Gates set the tone early with a 6-1 and 6-2 win at first singles. Bryan Arnett won his first set at second singles 6-4, but dropped the second by an identical score. Arnett was able to finish the job by defeating his opponent 10-3 in the tie-breaker set. In doubles play, Gates and Arnett teamed up at first singles and pushed past their PSU-Abington opponents 8-4.

Also picking up wins for Eastern was Dan Wilson at third singles. Josh Hall pulled out the second tie-breaker match of the morning for the Eagles (6-4, 1-6, 10-2). Jonny Shenk rounded out the scoring for Eastern as he defeated his sixth singles opponent 6-4, 6-4.

The Eagles finish out the non-traditional part of their 2009-2010 season at Philadelphia University at 3:00 PM on Monday, September 21.
