ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - At the midway point of their sophomore season, Eastern Flag Football has continued to establish itself as one of the top flag football programs in the nation. As of Monday, April 6, the Eagles are ranked 11th according to the Women's College Flag Football Poll.
Offensively, Eastern has showcased both efficiency and explosiveness both on the ground and through the air. In the passing game, sophomore
Kira Green has thrown for over 2,300 yards and 45 touchdowns in Eastern's first 13 games, completing 67 percent of her passes. Additionally, she is averaging three touchdown passes per contest.
Seniors
Damiyae Moyet and
Jeriyah Johnson lead a dynamic and deep wide receiver room. Johnson has a team-high 61 receptions and 15 touchdowns on 525 receiving yards, while Moyet leads the Eagles with 613 receiving yards to go along with 14 touchdowns. Johnson also has three pick sixes on the season and nine interceptions on defense.
The Eagles are equally as dynamic running the football. Sophomore
Kyla Massenburg leads Eastern with 494 yards rushing and 17 touchdowns while averaging 7.2 yards per carry. Overall, the Eagles average 39.7 points and 244.7 yards per game.
While the Eagles have become quite adept at scoring points, their biggest strength is keeping their opponents off the scoreboard. Eastern's defense has allowed just 7.7 points per game and has come away with 36 interceptions. First-year
Molly Schellpeper has 13 of those interceptions to go along with five receiving touchdowns. Senior
Stephanie White has corralled three picks together with 15 pass breakups.
On the line, Massenburg is also a force a rusher, recording a team-high 77 tackles, 28 for loss, and 18 sacks. First-year
Briel Hyppolite has made an immediate impact on defense as well, recording 38 tackles, 15 tackles for loss, and 11 sacks.
Eastern will be back in action tomorrow at Montclair State. The Eagles beat the Red Hawks in overtime, 18-12, in the programs' first ever meeting back on March 17.
