Baseball Beats Haverford for 20th Win

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - It was an afternoon of milestones for Eastern Baseball as the Eagles overcame an early deficit en route to a 15-8 victory over the Haverford College Fords at the Yard on Wednesday. The Eagles used a five-run first and a seven-run third to eventually build a lead they would not relinquish. For Eastern, it was its 20th win of the year, the most in single season since the 2024 and 2012 seasons dating back to the early 90's.

Junior centerfielder Trent MacDougall also hit a significant milestone in Tuesday's win. With his pair of stolen bases against Haverford, MacDougall now has 23 on the year, surpassing David Hunsberger for the most stolen bases in a single season in program history. Hunsberger stole 22 bags back in the 2022 season. Furthermore, senior left fielder Thomas Kozlusky recorded his 100th hit as an Eagle on an infield single in the bottom of the sixth inning, becoming the second Eagle to reach the 100-hit milestone this season.

Haverford (8-16) started the scoring with a pair of RBI singles from Miles Prusek and Luke Treese, but the Eagles (20-8) responded with five runs in the bottom of the first. Matt McSorley drove in three of this runs with his fifth home-run of the season, his fourth at The Yard. MacDougall scored the Eagles' first run on a wild pitch and Leyton Bamesberger capped off the inning with an RBI groundout.

The Fords tied the game with back-to-back two-out doubles in the third, but the Eagles put the game out of reach with seven runs in the third. Ryan Alfonso, MacDougall, and Kozlusky each worked bases-loaded walks to put the Eagles ahead 8-5, before a two-run single from Luke Meehan and a two-run double from David Garrido pushed Eastern's advantage to seven runs.

Eastern added a pair of insurance runs in the fourth and another in the fifth to increase it lead to 15-5. Meehan and Justin Rodriguez each hit RBI groundouts, while Alfonso scored on one of Haverford's four fielding errors. The Ford got three runs back on Miles Prusek's fifth home run of the year in the seventh, but would not draw any closer.

Meehan and Garrido combined for four hits, five runs scored, and five RBIs. MacDougall, Kozlusky, and McSorley drove in a combined six runs and scored five. Zachary Alfonso (1-0) earned his first collegiate win in relief, throwing a pair of scoreless innings, while Peter Mellana, Dylan Labukas, and Austin Quark also threw one scoreless inning apiece.

The Eagles begin an important conference series with Alvernia on Friday at 3:30 pm at Angelica Park in Reading.
