CLERMONT, Fla. - Eastern Softball returned to action on Thursday and recorded another pair of wins. The Eagles rallied from a pair of two-run deficits to take down Wentworth, 8-6, in game one. In game two, the Eagles rallied from another early two-run deficit and survived a late rally to beat St. John Fisher, 9-7, in eight innings. Senior pitcher
Bryn Clifford made history in game one, becoming the single-season leader in saves. She recorded her first win of the season in game two. Eastern's 7-0 start is the best in the history of Eastern Softball dating back to the 1999 season.
After recording back-to-back saves in wins over Susquehanna and Alma back on Tuesday, Clifford entered the Wentworth game in the seventh inning with the Eagles leading by two. She needed just five pitches to record three outs, marking her third save in a row and her fourth of the season. She entered in the seventh against St. John Fisher, keeping the game tied at 6-6. After the Eastern offense scored three more runs in the top of the eighth, she recorded the final three outs, giving up just one run to keep Eastern perfect on the season.

Maura Yoos was not retired, finishing 4-for-4 with three runs scored and a pair of RBIs.
Ainsley O'Donnell also reached base safely in all three plate appearances with a pair of hits, a walk, two runs scored, and an RBI.

Maryanna Nagle,
Grace O'Connor, and
Hailey Burke also recorded hits in Eastern's sixth win of the season.
Trailing 2-0 in the bottom of the first,
Sydney Ostolaza scored Yoos on an RBI fielders choice, and Laub followed with an RBI double, plating Ostolaza to tie the contest at 2-2. Wentworth went back ahead by two with a pair of runs in the top of the second, but the Eagles answered again in the bottom of the third on a Laub two-run single.
After a scoreless inning from McCubbin, the Eagles took the lead for good with three runs in the bottom of the fourth. O'Donnell scored
Elena Trotter on a sacrifice fly, Yoos scored
Hailey Burke on an RBI bunt single, and Nagle capped off the scoring with a double to right field, plating Yoos.
Wentworth scored a pair of runs in each of the fifth and sixth innings, but McCubbin and the Eagles defense were able to limit the damage. In the fifth, with runners on the corners with no outs, Ostolaza threw out Lauren Trostel stealing second, before McCubbin induced a pop up for the second out of the inning. Abby Delia singled home Kyla Igawa to make it 7-5, but the Eagles got out of the inning with its lead still intact.
Wentworth threatened again in the sixth, leading off the inning with back-to-back singles, but McCubbin induced three straight ground-outs to hold the Leopards to just one run. The Eagles went into the bottom of the sixth leading 7-6.
The Eagles added an important insurance run in the bottom of the sixth. O'Donnell hit a two-out double, before Yoos recorded her second RBI of the day on another bunt single, putting the Eagles ahead 8-6. Clifford did the rest, recording a 1-2-3 seventh to secure the Eastern victory.
Eastern struck first against St. John Fisher as
Emily Trzonkowski scored O'Donnell on a sacrifice fly. The Cardinals scored the next three runs, taking a 3-1 lead into the top of the fifth inning.

After St. John Fisher got a run back in the fifth, O'Donnell hit another RBI double in the sixth to give the Eagles a 6-4 advantage.
The Cardinals kept the game alive for another inning, plating two on an RBI double from Isabella Mahar, but the Eastern offense went right back to work in the top of the eighth.

Gia Gordon to put the Eagles back ahead for good, and O'Donnell and Yoos added insurance runs on a sacrifice fly and an RBI double, respectively.
