Softball Drops Final Game in Florida

CLERMONT, Fla. - On its final day of Spring Break, Eastern Softball dropped a 6-5 decision to Johnson & Wales. Eastern held a 5-2 lead heading into the bottom the sixth inning, but the Wildcats plated four in the frame to hand the Eagles their last first loss of the season.

The Eagles struck first in the top of the second inning. Bella Herrera collected her first collegiate RBI on a single through the left side, scoring Becca Taylor, before Maura Yoos drew a bases-loaded walk to make it 2-0 Eastern. After the Wildcats tied the game in the bottom of the second, the eagles regained a three-run advantage over the next two innings. In the third, Taylor scored Mackenzie Laub with an RBI single up the middle give the Eagles a 3-2. A Sydney Ostolaza RBI single and a Laub sacrifice fly put the Eagles ahead 5-2 in the fourth.

The Cougars took control of the game in the sixth, scoring four runs on three hits and an error. Harper Ellis scored Charlotte Labossiere on a fielders choice, Jadyn Torres scored Ellis on a RBI groundout, and Mady Lyons drove in the game-winning runs on a double to right center field.

Seven Eagles finished with a hit. Yoos, Ostolaza, Laub, and Taylor each drove in a run.

Eastern (7-1) returns home this coming week to face Neumann in a doubleheader at the EU Softball Field on Wednesday. First pitch is set for 2:30 pm.
