BALTIMORE, Md.—
Natalia Willoughby scored six times and
Tori Benjamin made six stops in three quarters of play as Eastern University Women's Lacrosse earned a 14-6 win at Notre Dame of Maryland University.
The Eagles finished with a 47-20 edge in shots and put 38 shots on cage in the contest.
Willoughby opened the scoring in the third minute and
Gracie Horton added her first of three on an assist from Seana Rogers late in the frame, but the Eagles lead was only two after one quarter despite out-shooting the Gators 11-to-5 through 15 minutes.
Willoughby scored twice early in the second for a 4-0 lead, but the Gators rallied to close the gap to 4-2 with 3:00 minutes to play in the first half. Though Willoughby scored on the ensuing draw, the Eagles went down a player and the hosts capitalized to close the gap to 5-3 at halftime.
Though Horton picked up a yellow card early in the second half, the third quarter was the difference as the Eagles scored a pair of player-down goals on the way to a 6-to-0 edge in the frame. Willoughby scored the first on another Rogers pass and
Anaelis Morales made it 7-3 only seconds later.
The Eagles then added four more in a three-minute stretch to go up 11-3 with just under six minutes to play in the third.
Horton scored once and
Morgan Wallace added two more to put the Eagles up 14-4 before the gators scored a pair of late goals for the final tally.
Eastern (2-3) is at Cedar Crest for a 6:00 pm game on Wednesday.
