ALLENTOWN, Pa.—
Gracie Horton scored five times and
Morgan Wallace added four goals and a pair of assists as Eastern University Women's Lacrosse claimed a 12-6 win at Cedar Crest College. The Eagles (3-4) broke the game open with five-straight goals between the end of the first period and the beginning of the second half.
Wallace opened the scoring in the third minute. That lead held until Cedar Crest equalized with a transition goal nine-and-a-half minutes into the game. Wallace then put the Eagles up for good with 93 seconds left in the first. The goal came on her third shot in an extended offensive possession.
Eastern dominated the second period with a 12-to-1 edge in shots. Horton put Eastern up 3-1 on a free-postion goal only 15 seconds into the frame. She made it 4-1 on her second of the day midway through the period. With only nine seconds left in the half, Madison Groetcsh tucked in a pass from Natalia WIlloughby for a 5-1 lead and her first career goal.
Early in the third, Wallace set up
Anaelis Morales for a decisive 6-1 edge. Though Cedar Crest answered late in the frame. Wallace converted a free-position goal near the end of the third.
The Eagles scored three of the first four goals in the fourth quarter to stretch their lead to 10-3. Horton, Morales, and Wallace each scored. The teams then traded goals to the finish.
With Willoughby collecting four and Wallace and Horton each grabbing three, the Eagles finished with an 11-9 edge on draws. The Falcons were only able to convert on 12-of-22 clearing attempts. Cedar Crest goalie Izzy Feddor made 13 stops to help keep the Falcons in the game.
For a program in the process of rebuilding, the two-game winning streak is a positive forward step. The Eagles last won two matches in a row when they won three-straight in April of 2018. They will look to equal that mark when they host Bryn Mawr College this Saturday.
