Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women's Lacrosse Stopped Under the Lights at Chestnut Hill

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa.— Eastern University Women's Lacrosse won 11-of-15 daw controls and executed a solid defensive game plan, but the host Chestnut Hill College Griffins (2-2) rode a hot goalkeeper to a 12-1 win. The Eagles fired 16 shots on goal, but could only beat Mel Amadour once. Tori Benjamin made seven saves for the Eagles.

Under the lights for the first time this season, the Eagles struggled to catch in traffic early and had to shift to an offense with more dodging and ball screens. The Eagles got seven-first quarter shots. Amador, however, stood strong on each, and the DII hosts held a 1-0 lead at the end of one quarter,

The Griffins took advantage of extra-player chances and free position shots to pull away in the second. Chetnut Hill scored on five free position goals and added another extra-player goal to go up 8-0.

Morgan Wallace ended the Eastern draught with a strong finish on a sweeping move late in the half. The Eagles, unfortunately, lost the ensuing draw and the Griffins restored the eight-goal edge with only seconds before the break.

Eastern had more of the game in the third quarter, but a solid Chestnut Hill defense kept the Eastern offense on the perimeter and none of their shots found the net in a scoreless third quarter.

The Griffins broke through in the fourth as the rain started to fall.

Gracie Horton had seven shots, Wallace took five, and Natalia Willoughby and Paige Robinson each took four. Willoughby and Horton each gathered in five draws. Today was the first women's lacrosse game between Eastern and Chestnut Hill since 1998.

The Eagles are at Delaware Valley on Saturday.
