WASHINGTON, D.C., — Eastern University Men's Volleyball dropped a pair of four-set non-league matches at Marymount University. The Eagles won the second set in matches against the host Saints and against the Virginia Wesley Marlins.
Kaodi Wokocha had 25 kills in the two matches.
The Eagles (4-7) dropped the opening set to the Saints, 25-19, but hit .263 in the second set to level the match with a 25-23 win. Eastern trailed 21-20 in the set before a
Landon Mattiace kill and two points with Wokocha serving.
Colby Arvesen earned the first point with a kill in transition and Mattiace delivered a solo block for a 25-23 lead. Eastern exchanged hideouts to level the match.
Marymount (7-5) was very efficient in the sideout game over the final two sets and pied away with close wins. Eastern dropped the third set, 25-23, despite hitting .387. Six service errors proved to be the Eagles' undoing in the stretch.
After falling 25-17 in the first set to the Marlins (7-2), the Eagles won the second set 25-20. Wokocha and Mattiace each put in big service runs in the set. Wokocha had six kills on 10 swings.
In the decisive third-set, the Eagles fought off a set point at 24-23 on a kill from Arvesen, but were not able to press the advantage after Arevesen earned a point on serve and fell 26-24.
Virginia Wesleyan hit .462 in the fourth set to pull away to the win.
Ronan Landis had 28 assists against Virginia Wesleyan and 33 against Marymount.
Eastern will host Valley Forge and Penn State Schuylkill next Saturday.
