UNION, N.J.— Eastern University Men's Volleyball (4-7) extended the match with a win in the third set, but were unable to complete the comeback in a four-set road loss to the Kean University Cougars.
Trey Broussard finished with a match-high 13 kills to go with seven blocks and two aces while hitting an impressive .611.
The Cougars (6-4) hit over .300 in the opening two sets to pull away to a pair of decisive wins. The Eagles found their defense in the third and earned a 25-22 win. Kino Tulitupou picked up six digs and the Eagles picked up 17 to hold the hosts to only seven third-set kills. Broussard also had three blocks in the frame.
Kadin Kolstad served for two important points late to put the Eagles up and they were able to earn sideouts to secure the set.
Both teams had solid offense in the fourth, but the host Cougars had 20 fourth-set digs and put away 15 kills to pull out a 25-20 win in the fourth. Eastern was within a point at 18-17 but could not earn a point on serve to close the gap.
Kolstad led the Eagles with 10 digs and also added a pair of aces.
Eastern will host the University of Valley Forge and Penn State Schuylkill in a tri-match this Saturday.
