Cold Shooting Undoes Women at Albright

READING, Pa.—Eastern University Women's Basketball saw its two-game winning streak snapped with a 75-44 MAC Commonwealth loss at Albright College. The host Lions (9-10, 5-3) finished the game with 21 offensive rebounds and a 58-21 edge on the glass to overcome an 18 points eight steal effort from Jeriyah Johnson.

The Eagles led 5-2 on a 3-pointer and a lay-up from Johnson after an Ariyana Hester offensive rebound. That score turned out to be Eastern's only second-chance basket of the game. Though the Eagles shot only 17-of-59 from the floor, they gathered only three live-ball offensive rebounds in the game.

The Lions hit eight of their next nine shots and closed out the quarter on a 21-7 run to lead 23-12. The Eagles made only four field goals in the frame.

Eastern (7-12, 2-6) opened the second quarter on a 10-to-3 run to pull within four at the midpoint of the period before Albright closed out the frame ona. 12-to-2 run that included six free throws. Though Johnson had 12 points, and Aarin Manuel had seven points on 3-of-5 shooting, the Eagles still trailed 38-24 at the half.

While the Eagles played step-for-step with the Lions in the third, they could not bite into the lead and Albright held the Eagles to only 1-of-15 fromt he floor in the fourth to pull away to the win.

After shooting over 43 percent from the floor and getting to the line with regularity in each of their two recent wins, the Eagles made only 29 percent from the floor and took only six free throws against Albright.

Now with 1310 points, Johnson moved ahead of Regie Robinson '19 and into the seventh spot on Eastern's career-points list. She is now 16 points behind Emily Lavin '17. Johnson's eight steals are the most by an Eastern player since she had nine in a 58-55 away win at Stevenson in January of 2024.

The Eagles face another tough road test on Wednesday at Widener.
