ST. DAVIDS, Pa. — Eastern University Women's Soccer (6-0-1) used depth and quality to earn a decisive 3-0 win over the visiting Goucher College Gophers. All 32 healthy players saw the field as the Eagles continued their unbeaten start to the 2025 campaign.
Meiley Shuck scored twice for the Eagles.
Though Eastern dominated possession and field position, the Gophers (1-6) held the Eagles on the perimeter through the early moments of the game. Eastern had five corners in the opening fifteen minutes of the match. Goucher defender Madison Quick cleared a couple shots off the goal line, and the rest of the Goucher team defended well and discouraged chances.
Eastern finally broke through in the 33rd minute.
Billinda Leisner swung a pass from the left to the right.
Emma Bennett came in off the flank to meet the ball and slammed home a left-footed shot for her team-leading fifth of the year.
Up a goal, the Eagles continued to press. In the 38th minute,
Kate Malcolm put a ball off the cross bar. After a flurry of substitutions, the Eagles finally doubled the lead.
Kelly Lyons battled for a ball near the top of the box and dropped a well-weighted pass that Schuck hammered home from range for her first career goal.
The Eagles had a 15-0 edge in shots and an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks through 45 minutes.
With multiple reserves on from the start, the Eagles continued to press to start the second half. Shuck found her second in the 69th minute. This time it was
Erin Speak who provided the service. Shuck's second goal was equally well-struck from a similar distance.
Eastern finished with a 22-0 edge in shots.
Faith Leake and
Brooke Moskey each played a half in goal for the Eagles.
With several tough tests on the horizon, the Eagles will see their schedule ramp up as they head into the start of MAC Commonwealth play in October. They will host Penn State Harrisburg on Wednesday and will travel to Arcadia next week before hosting No. 4 Misericordia the following week.
The seven game unbeaten streak is the longest for Eastern Women's Soccer since the Eagles reeled of 12-straight wins in 2008.
