ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – Eastern Field Hockey wasted no time setting the tone in its home opener on Tuesday, striking early and often en route to a commanding 4-1 victory over Immaculata in the 48th all-time meeting between the two programs.
The Eagles scored twice in the first nine minutes to seize control. Just 2:30 into the match,
CJ Summa redirected a shot from
Kacie Agnew to notch Eastern's first goal of the season. Minutes later,
Jenna Reider pounced on a rebound from Summa's shot and hammered it home to give the Eagles a quick 2-0 lead.
While the offense got to work early, the defense locked down the Immaculata offense. Sophomore goalkeeper
Angelina Catania anchored a back line that held the Mighty Macs to just one shot in the entire first half — a chance Catania turned away with ease.
Immaculata found the scoreboard early in the third with a goal from Alexis Andrada, but the Eagles answered almost immediately.
Karlee Howard, set up beautifully by first-year standout
Ryhanna Ridgeway, fired in Eastern's third goal to restore the two-goal cushion. Ridgeway kept the momentum rolling, netting her first collegiate goal off an assist from Howard to cap the scoring at 4-1.
Eastern's defense continued to stand tall in the second half, with Catania turning away three more shots to finish with four saves on the day. On the attack, Howard and Ridgeway led the charge with 11 combined shots, while Summa added five of her own.
With the win, Eastern improves to 1-1 and looks to carry that momentum into Friday's home matchup against Arcadia. The game is set to begin at 5:00 pm.
