ST. DAVIDS, Pa. – In a competitive matchup on Friday afternoon, Eastern Women's Soccer battled Moravian to a 1-1 draw at Olson Field. Both teams struck early, trading goals in the opening 10 minutes, but despite 17 shots from the Eagles, neither side could break the deadlock.
Eastern wasted no time getting on the board. In the eighth minute, senior midfielder
Emma Bennett pounced on a deflection just outside the box and threaded a clever pass to first-year left back
Katelyn Mason. The Logan Township, N.J. native stepped up and blasted a shot into the top-left corner for her first career goal, giving Eastern an early 1-0 lead. The assist marked Bennett's third of the season.
Moravian answered quickly. Just 67 seconds later, the Greyhounds capitalized on a midfield interception. Casey Sabolsky sent a perfect through-ball to Anna Dunn, who controlled it with her right foot and slotted it into the bottom-right corner to even the score at 1-1.
Eastern pushed hard to retake the lead, generating a barrage of chances over the next 20 minutes. Moravian keeper Caitlyn Phillips was up to the challenge, turning away five first-half shots, including a brilliant point-blank stop on Bennett in the 30th minute following a corner kick.
While Moravian managed only one more shot the rest of the game—a tame effort in the 80th minute easily handled by Eastern keeper
Faith Leake—the Greyhounds stayed active in the midfield, disrupting play and slowing the Eagles' attack. Eastern's best second-half opportunity came in the 68th minute, but
Tatum Roidl's effort was denied once again by Phillips.
Despite dominating possession and chances, the Eagles couldn't find the winner and settled for a draw.
With the result, Eastern moves to 4-0-1 on the season. The Eagles are back in action Tuesday night when they travel to Immaculata for a 7:00 pm kickoff.
