ST. DAVIDS, Pa. — A pre-game injury before the final home contest of the yearhad Eastern University Women's Lacrosse looking for goalkeeping volunteers to play against the Messiah University Falcons. Addyson Whittaker stopped six shots in her debut in cage, but the Eagles were unable to match the powerful Falcon attack in a 19-1 loss.
Even without the injury, the Eagles (2-8, 0-3) were facing a tough task dealing with a deep and talented Messiah side. The Falcons (10-3, 4-0) had already beaten good teams from Stevenson and Widener in the MAC Commonwealth.
The Falcons, ranked 25th in the most recent IWLCA poll, scored the the first nine goals of the contest before
Natalia Willoughby drove home the Eagles' only tally of the day. Willoughby won the draw and powered home an overhand shot from in close after winding through the Messiah defense. The first-year midfielder led the Eagles with four draw controls.
Hayley Lettinga scored six times to pace the Messiah attack. Emma Hagg had seven draw controls and six caused turnovers.
The Eagles will look to get healthy before traveling to York on Saturday for a date with the No. 8 Spartans.
