READING, Pa. - Eastern Men's Tennis recorded a crucial conference win on Tuesday evening, gutting out a 4-3 triumph over the Alvernia Golden Wolves.
Jeremy Brown delivered the game-winning point, rallying back from a 5-4, 40-0 deficit at No. 4 singles to lift Eastern (4-9, 2-1) to its second conference win of the season.
The Eagles picked recorded the match's first point on a win by forfeit at No. 6 singles, before going up 2-0 after securing the doubles point. Brown and
Jared Groff played Alvernia's (1-3, 1-1) Luke Brisbois and Duncan McDowell in a thriller at No. 2 doubles, winning the tiebreaker 7-2 and the match 7-6. It was the second win for the duo this season.
The Golden Wolves went on to earn back-to-back-to-back wins at No. 1, 2, and 3 to take the lead, but Groff tied the match at 3-3 with a 6-1, 6-4 win at No. 5 singles. Groff has been one of Eastern's most consistent players since joining the team in the spring, improving to 4-2 in his six matches played.
Brown, after dropping the first set at No. 4 singles, tied the match with a 6-0 win in the second set. Alvernia's Duncan McDowell looked to have the match wrapped up, leading 5-4 at 40-0. However, Brown came back from four match points down to ultimately win the third set 7-5 and earn his first win of the season in the process.
Eastern will continue to action on Friday at Immaculata. First serve is scheduled for 4:00 pm.
