Flag Football Splits Tri-Match

ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - Eastern Flag Football, in its return to the EU Auxiliary Field, split a pair of conference games on Saturday. The Eagles won their seventh consecutive game, and their fifth via shutout, with a 32-0 win over Centenary University. In the nightcap, the Eagles battled valiantly, but fell to Marymount, 12-0, for the second time this season.

Eastern (7-3) dominated in all three phrases in its shutout win over Centenary. The Eagles' offense outgained the Cyclones 153-90. The Eastern defense recorded four interceptions, including one for a pick six. And on special teams, a pair of big returns helped sparked a pair of Eastern touchdown drives.

Stephanie White led the Eagles on both offense and defense in the win. The junior from Ocoee, Fla. carried the ball six times for 72 yards and a pair of touchdowns, while also collecting seven tackles and a pick six for a touchdown. Dominique Geiger, Trinity Upton, and Jeriyah Johnson also recorded interceptions for the Eagles in the victory.

The Eastern defense quickly set the tone on the first series of the game as Trinity Upton intercepted an Eve Haddad pass near midfield to set up the Eagles in prime field position. The Eagles wasted little time, using a six-play drive to find the end zone for the first time. First-year quarterback Kira Green scored from two yards out on third-and-goal to put the Eagles ahead for good.

Eastern opened the second quarter with another touchdown, this time a Green 14-yard pass to Johnson, who broke away from several defenders on her way to the end zone. A few minutes later, Johnson intercepted another Centenary pass, and White scored her first touchdown of the day from 18 yards out.

The Centenary defense stiffened a little in the third quarter, but the Eagles were able to add another touchdown late in the frame. After the Eagles' defense forced a punt, Sanej Tyler returned the punt 18 yards to the Centenary eight-yard line. Four plays later, White found the endzone for the second time, this time from one-yard out, to make it a 26-0 Eastern lead.

White's third touchdown of the afternoon was the exclamation point. On third and short, White picked off another Haddad pass and scampered into the end zone, untouched, for the 38-yard pick six. It was the second pick six for the Eagles in as many home games.

The Eagles had their chances in the second game against Marymount, but failed to find the end zone in a 12-0 loss. The Saints are the only team that have shut out the Eagles this season.

Eastern had a promising first drive to begin the contest, driving down to around the Marymount 25-yard line. However, the Saints' defense came through on a Yariliz Torres interception. Marymount went on to score their first touchdown of the game. After converting multiple third and fourth down opportunities, the Saints capped off their scoring drive on a one-yard pass from Cara Vollmer to Jaylah Thompson.

Both defenses locked in during the second and third quarters as the score remained 6-0 late in the third. Damiyae Moyet delivered the biggest play of the second game with an interception in the Eastern red zone, but the Eagles failed to capitalize on the turnover. Marymount went on to score a touchdown on its next possession, eventually securing the 12-point win.

Eastern will be back at the Aux Field on Tuesday to take on the University of Delaware. The game is set to begin at 6:00 pm.
