OWINGS MILLS, Md. - Returning to conference play on Saturday, Eastern Women's Tennis dropped a 6-1 decision to the Stevenson Mustangs in Maryland.
Anisah Smith continued her recent hot streak, collecting Eastern's lone point at No. 4 singles.
Smith, a junior from Central Islip, N.Y., has been on fire for Eastern the last two weeks. Playing at both No. 3 and No. 4 singles, Smith has won four straight decisions, which includes wins over Natalie Hoover of Lancaster Bible, Samantha Huffer of Hood, and Tara Clark of DeSales. On Saturday against Stevenson's Mackenzie Dicke, Smith won the match 6-3, 6-4.
In doubles play, despite a 7-5 win from Gruber and Smith at No. 1 doubles, the Mustangs recorded 6-1 and 6-3 victories at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles to claim the doubles point.
In singles play, Gruber dropped a competitive match to No. 1 singles against Shelby Carter 6-3, 7-5.
Rhyan Metzger played Sofia McCoy to a third-set tiebreaker, but came up short in the tiebreaker round 10-3.
Eastern Women's Tennis will be back in action Tuesday against Neumann. First serve is set for 3:30 pm.
