OWINGS MILLS, Md. - In its final road match of the season on Saturday, Eastern Men's Volleyball never got their offense in track in a 3-0 loss to the Stevenson Mustangs. The Eagles hit a negative hitting percentage of -.105, while the Mustangs, conversely, finished the match with a .373 hitting percentage. The Eagles finished with just 19 kills on 86 swings.
The Eagles held a 3-2 lead early in the first set on kills from
Symir Byrd and
Kaodi Wokocha, but the Mustangs rallied with to grab a four-point advantage. Eastern cut the deficit to two at 7-5, which included a kill from
Connor Tucholski, but another five-point by the Mustangs put the set out of reach. Stevenson went on the win the opening set 25-12.
Eastern jumped out to another early lead in the second set, going up 5-3 on a service ace from
Ronan Landis and kills from Byrd and
Colby Arvesen. The two teams went on to trade points, and a pair of errors for Mustangs cut the Eastern deficit to 11-10. From there, the Mustangs outscored the Eagles 14-6 the rest of the way, winning the second set 25-16.
After an early 1-1 tie in the third set, the Mustangs took control, scoring seven straight points to go up 8-1 and take another lead they would not relinquish. Stevenson would go on to win the set 25-11 to secure the three-set sweep.
Tucholski led the Eastern offense with five kills, while Byrd and
Max Bagileo each finished with four. Landis finished with 10 assists, and Byrd led the Eagles' defensive effort with five digs.
Eastern will play its regular season finale this coming Wednesday against Arcadia. First serve at The NEST is set for 7:00 pm.
