IMMACULATA, Pa.– It was a night of firsts for Eastern University Women's Flag Football. Head Coach
Amanda Ruller and her group played a pair of games at Immacualta. The eagles dropped the opener to a skillful and experienced squad from Marymount University before seeing an early lead disappear in a 20-7 loss against the host Mighty Macs.
The first game saw the Eagles, spend much of their time on defense.
Kyla Massenburg was the Eagles' best threat on offense with 41 rushing yards. The Eagles completed 7-of-16 passes but were unable to make big plays downfield in the passing game. They gained only 34 yards through the air.
The Saints scored on all four of their first-half drives. The Eastern defense found its feet in the second half. The Eagles allowed only one fourth-quarter touchdown in the game.
Moments after finishing their game with Marymount, the Eagles set up against Immaculata.
The Eagles thought they had an early touchdown on a long completion to
Damiyae Moyet, but in trying to escape a pair of defenders, Moyet was called for guarding her flag and the drive ultimately stalled. After a defensive stop, the Eagles went on a long drive capped by a short run from Massenburg.
Morgan Owens ran in the extra point.
The game ultimately turned on a couple plays late in the half. The Mighty Macs tied the score on a fourth down pass and extra point with 35 seconds left. The next play, they went ahead on a long interception return for a touchdown.
The Eagles had a chance to tie with a first and goal situation in the third, but the Immaculata defense held its ground. Immaculata scored a final touchdown early in the fourth to go up two scores and held off another Eastern drive.
The Eagles are back in action next week with a pair of games at Neumann University.
