PHILADELPHIA AND SELINSGROVE, Pa. - Two Eagles set a pair of program records on Saturday as Eastern Men's Track and Field competed at both the Susquehanna Invitational and the Widener Indoor Classic.
Ian Hopkins broke his own record in the 60m Hurdles, and
Ryle Mellinger became the program's new record holder in the 1 Mile.
Hopkins placed second in the event at Susquehanna at a record time of 8.35m. He broke his own record he set two weeks ago at Haverford, which was 8.43m. Mellinger finished 10th in the 1 Mile, but became the program's new leader with a time of 4:21.05. He broke Rusty Batykefer's eight-year mark by over two minutes.
Robert Walton also competed in the Widener Indoor Classic, placing seventh in the 800m at 1:56.18, which put him third on the all-time list. At Susquehanna,
Daniel Franklin set a new PR and continues to sit second in the 60m Hurdles with a time of 8.55.
To wrap up Eastern's top finishers, Hopkins placed seventh in the High Jump (1.74m) to qualify for the MAC Championships,
Jeric Lewis finished second in the Triple Jump at 13.02m, and
Derrick Swain came in firth in the Shot Put with a distance of 13.36m.
Lastly, at the Joe LaRocco Invitational hosted in Roanoke, Va.,
Ni'Male Greenwood recorded a pair of top-five finishes in both the 60 and 200m. He finished third in the 60m (6.89) and fifth in the 200m (22.61).
Eastern will be back at Haverford next weekend for the Keogh Invitational.
