ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - In its penultimate home game of the season on Wednesday, Eastern Women's Basketball dropped a 70-50 decision to the Alvernia Golden Wolves. The Eagles were outrebounded by a 52-33 margin against a much bigger Alvernia squad, and the Golden Wolves scored the first 12 points of the game to set the tone early.
Alvernia dominated in the paint, scoring 46 of their 70 points right under the basket. Jennah DeGout was the main beneficiary, recording a double-double with 29 points and 14 rebounds. Two other Golden Wolves - Kylie Bradford and Olivia Burke - also finished in double figures. Bradford also scored a double-double with 10 points and a team-high 15 boards, while Bradford scored 10 points and finished one rebound short of a double-double herself.
Jeriyah Johnson collected her 11th straight double-digit scoring outing, finishing the contest with 26 points, four rebounds, and five steals. Her 26 points are tied for her third highest scoring output this season.
Trinity Upton finished with nine points, five rebounds, and three steals, while
Damiyae Moyet added five points.
DeGout scored on Alvernia's second possession and the Golden Wolves led the rest of the way. Eastern was held off the scoreboard until the 4:17 mark when Moyet hit her first three to cut the lead to 12-3. Johnson hit a three to make it 16-7 Alvernia with 1:33 left in the first quarter, but the Golden Wolves pushed their advantage to 10 at halftime on baskets from Paige O'Brien and Jordyn Ingelido.
The Eagles scored just six points in the second quarter on baskets from Johnson and
Kendall Williams along with a pair of free throws from Moyet. The Golden Wolves kept feeding the ball inside with excellent efficiency, building their lead to 36-17 at the halftime break.
Another lengthy scoring drought for the Eagles allowed the Golden Wolves to build their advantage to 31 points before
Tyerra Jarvis scored a tough layup at the 6:38 mark. Alvernia scored 24 points in the frame to take a 28-point lead into the fourth quarter.
Eastern outscored the Golden Wolves 18-10 in the fourth, but never got any closer than 20 points the rest of the way.
