FREDERICK, Md.– After taking the longest road trip in the league to get to Hood College, Eastern University Women's Basketball fell, 76-49, and was unable to complete the season-sweep over the host Blazers.
Jeriyah Johnson posted a career-high 31 in the loss.
Johnson, who is now two points from 1,000 for her career, scored eight points in each of the first three periods before scoring only seven in the final frame. She made all 11 of her foul shots. Her stellar scoring effort backs up a 26-point effort against Alvernia on Wednesday.
In the first meeting of the year between the two teams, the Eagles took advantage of some late misses from the foul line to claim a 50-47 win. The Blazers again struggled from the line, but they shot 47.6 percent from the floor and were 7-of-14 from behind the arc.
The hosts led 19-12 after the first quarter and 36-22 at halftime. Chanelle Lee and Amari Faust each had 11. Faust made three of Hood's five first-half 3-pointers. Though the Eagles made only 6-of-27 shots, they did not coral a single live-ball offensive rebound in the first half.
Eastern cut the Hood lead to nine on a Johnson 3-pointer with 6:44 to play in the third. The two teams traded baskets before the Blazers scored the final eight points of the third to forge a big lead going to the fourth.
Sanej Tyler scored five points off the bench and
Damiyae Moyet had four points. Hood had a 22-to-0 edge in second-chance points. Lee led them with 23 points.
The Eagles (2-21, 1-11) will play at Albright on Tuesday before finishing the season at home against league-leading Messiah.
