Women's Tennis Wins First Match of Fall at Penn State Abington

ABINGTON, Pa. - Eastern Women's Tennis recorded its first win of the 2025-2026 season with a 6-1 win road victory over Penn State Abington on Saturday. The Eagles earned wins at No. 1 and 2, while also clinching victories at the top five singles spots.

Despite Penn State Abington earning the win at No. 3 doubles by forfeit, the Eagles earned the point with wins in the top two spots. Mary Brusstar and Sarah Mower won 6-4 at No. 1 doubles over Soniyah Youngblood and Juliana De Souza, and Grace Schriever and Anaya Birch clinched the doubles point with a 6-4 triumph over Sevara Tursunboeva at No. 2 doubles.

The Eagles lost just 14 total games in the top five singles matches. Brusstar dropped just two games at No. 1 singles in a 6-1, 6-1 win. Mower lost just one in a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 2 singles. Schriever won by the same score at No. 3 singles. Birch earned her first win of the fall with a 6-2, 6-2 victory at No. 4 singles, and first-year Lily Aldrich sealed her first collegiate win at No. 5 singles, 6-4, 6-2.

"Everyone played great today," Eastern Head Coach Harrison Bitzberger said. "We battled through some tight matches and stayed consistent when it mattered the most."
