ST. DAVIDS, Pa.— Coming off a 1-0 win over Stevenson midweek, Eastern University Women's Soccer kept a clean sheet streak going, but unable to find the critical final play to earn the win, the Eagles settled for a 0-0 draw with the visiting Alvernia University Golden Wolves.
The Eagles (8-4-4, 2-2-1) had some chances early, but Alvernia goalkeeper Abby Rowley made back-to-back stops on hard shot from
Billinda Leisner and a long effort to the upper corner by
Paige Snell. The Eagles had a 7-0 edge in first-half shots, but the other five shots of the frame all missed the target.
Eastern came out with more positive energy in the second, but the Golden Wolves held their ground. Rowley made five stops in the second half. As the Eagles pushed numbers forward, the Golden Wolves (4-7-5, 0-3-2) had a couple chances in transition. All three Alvernia shots came in the final five minutes of the match.
Faith Leake made her only stop of the match on a testing shot to the top corner with three minutes left.
The Eagles had one opportunity called back for an offside in the 79th minute. Snell finished with five shots and
Emma Bennett had three.
While the games of late have all been close, today's draw is just the second time in the 20-match series between the two programs that Eastern did not emerge with a win.
The Eagles need to turn their attention to securing maximum points at Albright and at home against Widener.
