Women's Soccer Locks up Post-Season Bid with Win at Albright

READING, Pa. — Nicole Eveland scored in the 43rd minute, and Eastern University Women's Soccer (9-4-4, 3-2-1) kept the host Albright College Lions from putting a shot on goal to earn a 1-0 win and secure a third-straight trip to the MAC Commonwealth Tournament.

Billinda Leisner and Paige Snell put shots on frame in the first ten minutes, and the Eagles took all six of the shots in the first half, but the score remained knotted at 0-0 until very late in the first half. A foul by the hosts gave the Eagles a free kick just over thirty yards from goal. In a spot where a serve or a shot was possible, Eveland opted for the latter. Her right-footed effort caught the Albright goalkeeper stepping into space to cut away the cross and curled inside the back post. It is the second-career goal for the outside back from Kennett.

Though they had much of the possession, the Eagles struggled to get into the Albright box and so the result remained in doubt until the end. Tia Argento and Ella Sedor teamed with Eveland and Ashlynn Keys to keep the Lyons out of the Eastern box. Albright had two shots from outside the box in the second half, but neither was on frame. Brooke Moskey played the first half and earned the win, and Faith Leake finished the match to preserve the shutout.

The Eagles currently sit two points behind third-place Stevenson. The Mustangs are at York on Saturday at noon. The Eagles can move into the third seed with a home win over Widener and a loss or a tie by Stevenson. York is currently the second seed. Should Stevenson beat York, the Mustangs would be the second seed and the Spartans would fall to third.

The Eagles will honor their seniors at 11:00 on Saturday.
