ST. DAVIDS, Pa. - In its regular season finale on Saturday afternoon at Olson Field, Eastern Women's Soccer played Widener to a 0-0 draw. The Eagles controlled play after halftime, firing off 11 of their 13 total shots and creating several dangerous scoring opportunities, but the breakthrough goal remained just out of reach.
Both sides played tight, disciplined defense through the opening 45 minutes, combining for only five total shots. Goalkeeper
Brooke Moskey made a pair of early saves to keep the match level, while Widener's Araba Abanyie denied
Nicole Eveland on a first-half restart.
Eastern came out strong in the second half, turning up the tempo and pinning the Pride deep in their own end. Eastern's best chance came in the 64th minute off a curling shot from
Emma Bennett to the top right corner, but Abanyie made the diving save to keep the game scoreless. Bennett had two more great chances later in the second half, but one shot went high and the other was saved by Abanyie from close range.
Widener's best looks came in the 69th minute, but the Eagles' defense stood tall.
Ashlynn Keys cleared a sure goal off the line, and another Widener shot moments later missed just wide.
Eastern's back line, anchored by
Tia Argento and
Ella Sedor, kept Widener's offense in check all afternoon. Argento broke up passes and initiated counterattacks, while Sedor locked down the middle of the field to secure the clean sheet.
Prior to kickoff, the Eagles honored their eight seniors—Moskey, Eveland, Keys,
Kelly Lyons,
Paige Snell,
Megan Burkholder,
Emily Brownell, and Bennett—for their leadership and impact on the program. The group led Eastern to 20 wins over the past two seasons.
With the regular season wrapped up, the Eagles (9–4–5, 3–2–2) now set their sights on postseason play. Eastern heads to Grantham on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. to take on the Messiah Falcons in the MAC Commonwealth Quarterfinals.
