LANCASTER, Pa. - Sophomore forward
Mia Zucker continued her strong season with a pair of goals on Saturday at Lancaster Bible, which included the go-ahead goal in the 67 minute of the match. The Chargers, however, were able to tie the contest again less than a minute later, and neither team could find a game winner in an eventual 2-2 draw.
Zucker recorded the game's first tally in the 19th minute. Off some excellent passing, and a strong cross from
Nicole Eveland,
Bridget Hitchner lofted the ball to Zucker, who headed it in from the right side of the net to put the Eagles ahead 1-0.
Neither team recorded another shot in the opening 45 minutes, and the Eagles took a one-goal lead into halftime. The Chargers were able to equalize early in the second half as Isabella Eufemia scored on a breakaway in the 59th minute. Eight minutes later, after some more stout ball movement in front of the LBC net,
Paige Snell lifted the ball in the air and Zucker finished it off with a tuck in the bottom right corner of the net.
After the restart, LBC's Zoe Beers sent a ball into the box, and a defensive breakdown allowed Janae Bergey to tie the game just 48 seconds later. Both teams had their chances in the final 23 minutes, but neither team could find a game-winning goal.
The host Chargers outpaced the Eagles 11-7 in shots, which included a 6-3 edge in shots on goal. Zucker led the way for the Eagles with two. The Jenkintown native, after missing her entire first year due to injury, leads the Eagles in goals (five) and points (11).
Eastern will hit the road again on Tuesday to face off against Penn State Abington. The contest is set to begin at 4:00 pm.
