SCRANTON, Pa. - Trailing by five runs early, Eastern Baseball mounted a furious comeback on Tuesday afternoon to beat the Marywood Pacers 9-8 and end a six-game skid. The Eagles scored three runs in the fifth, five runs in the sixth, and one in the ninth to secure their 12th win of the campaign.
Marywood scored one run in the first on an RBI groundout, before scoring four runs in the second on a pair of hits and sacrifice flies. After the first two innings, however, first-year hurler
Owen DeLong was solid in his final three innings, allowing just one hit and two total baserunners.
Eastern's offense woke up in the top of the fifth. After back-to-back outs to start the frame, a
Ryan Turzani walk, a double down the left field line for
Griffin Falco, and another walk to
Connor Schilling loaded the bases.
David Hunsberger delivered the clutch hit, doubling deep to right-center to clear the bases and trim the Marywood advantage to 5-3.
After walks to
Joe Paradise and
Brock Langlotz opened the sixth,
Sean Cottrell ripped a double to left center field to tie the contest at 5-5. Three batters later with runner on first and second with two outs,
Brian Lang hit his second home run of the season, and his second home run in his last four appearances, to put the Eagles ahead 8-5.
Marywood was able to tie the game in the seventh inning, but as the Eagles have demonstrated many times this season, they scored another late run in a crucial moment. With two outs and two runners on,
Logan Klember delivered the game-winning RBI, scoring
Leyton Bamesberger to put the Eagles ahead 9-8.
Roy Corso (1-0) put the finishing touches on his first win in an Eagles' uniform, giving up just one baserunner hit and ending the game with a strikeout. The Paramus, N.J. native pitched the final 2.2 frames, allowing just one hit and three total baserunnrers to secure the victory for Eastern.
Eastern (12-14, 4-8) returns to The Yard tomorrow for another non-conference showdown against Delaware Valley. First pitch is scheduled for 3:30 pm.
