Men's Lacrosse Wins at Alvernia

READING, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Lacrosse scored the first 14 goals of the game and had 12 players record a goal or an assist in a 17-2 MAC Commonwealth win on the road over the Alvernia University Golden Wolves. Nicholas Fanelli and Nick Litzenberger each had a goal and three assists and Ethan Myers made six stops while not allowing a goal while playing the first half in goal.

Eastern (5-9, 1-3) dominated the series against the Golden Wolves, today's game carried a lot of weight for a squad that had dropped three straight games in the league. The Eagles were in games with both Messiah and York, but they were not able to get over the top in each game. While Alvernia had yet to win a league game, the Golden Wolves (4-9, 0-4) featured a goalie in Dane Sabarese who was stopping shots at a 64 percent clip and had piled up over twenty saves in each of his last three outings.

With faceoff wins still a challenge, the Eagles knew they would have to beat Sabarese with consistency. The Eagles scored their third goal before Sabarese made his second stop. Christopher Fanelli scored the fourth goal of the first period on a pass from Litzenberger for a 4-0 lead and command of the game. Fanelli's tally was the first of the day by an attackman. Bachman opened the scoring, Litzenberger buried his 28th of the season to double the lead and Brennan Kaut tallied his first of two on the day for a3-0 lead midway through the first quarter.

The Eagles went without a goal as Avery Porter hit a pipe and Sabarese turned away a shot from Christoper Fanelli on their first possession of the second quarter, but Dominic Marangoni forced a turnover and Nicholas Fanelli put away his 30th of the year. He is now seven goals from breaking Grant Ferguson's career mark of 188.

To close out the half, the Eagles got two more goals from Connor Bachman and single tallies from Gavin Stark, Jake Vitone, Brett Willimason and Christopher Fanelli. The Eagles won four of the eight second quarter faceoffs and led 11-0 at the half.

With the big lead, the Eagles began to cycle some new player into the game in the second half. Porter, who is returning to action after injury, scored twice int he first six minutes of the second half. Andrew Collins scored his second of the season with three and a half minutes to go in the third.

After the Golden Wolves finally broke through with a pair of goals midway through the fourth, Collins set up Maxwell Forrey for his first career goal. two minutes later, Forrey scored again. This time, Doug Reinecke played provider. Kaut put away his second of the game late in the shot clock for the final margin.

All five Eastern goalies saw time in the contest. Zachary Klym started the second half and made five stops and did not allow a goal, William Blum, Ben Connolly, and Brendan Kirn split the final 17 minutes and combined for five stops.
