ST. DAVIDS, Pa.– Eastern University Men's Lacrosse jumped to an early lead and never looked back on the way to an 18-7 win over the Albright College Lions in the team's final game at Olson Field this year. NIcholas Fanelli scored five times and
Avery Porter posted an eight-point day. With the Eagles starting all ten of their seniors,
William Blum made eight saves and picked up the win in goal.
Just days after having knee surgery,
Patrick McClain returned to the field for a final faceoff win to start the game. He did so with
Ethan Myers and
Nick Litzenberger on the wings and
Connor Bachman on attack with Porter and
Nicholas Fanelli.
Luc Trudel and
Braden Wagner started next two
Nathan Gilbert in front of Blum.
"I really appreciate Coach Erich agreeing to start the game with Patrick taking the faceoff," Head Coach
Colin Piper said after the game. "the guys really wanted to get Patrick out there one more time at home."
The Eagles turned it over to get McClain off the field and earned a stop on defense. In the first set possession of the day, Porter set up
Nicholas Fanelli for a 1-0 lead. With his five goal day,
Nicholas Fanelli now has 187 career goals. He is one goal behind Grant Ferguson for the Eastern program record. He has 321 career points in 70 games.
Connor Bachman doubled the Eastern lead on the team's second possession.
Gavin Stark made it 3-0 with seven minutes left, and the Eagles added four more in the final five minutes to grab control of the game.
Nicholas Fanelli scored the fourth goal before
Christopher Fanelli put away back-to-back efforts only 23 seconds apart. Brett WIlliamson set up the first goal and
Nicholas Fanelli set up the next one. Porter finished a pass from Stark to close the scoring in the quarter.
Blum made four first-quarter stops before giving way to Myers.
Albright won the opening faceoff of the second quarter, but
Nicholas Fanelli ripped a ball free and dunked in a finish for an 8-0 lead.
The Lions scored three of the next four goals before Bachman put away a strong overhand finish for his 23rd goal of the year. With the goal, Bachman became the 18th player in program history to reach 100 career points. he joins teammate
Nick Litzenberger as one of the few players to reach that total without playing on attack.
The Eagles led 10-4 at half and were up only 11-5 with six minutes to play in the third quarter. Including three goals in the final minute, Eastern scored the final four goals of the period. Porter scored from
Brennan Kaut with 43 seconds left, then the Eagles took advantage of a man-up chance for a Litzenberger goal from Porter with 18 seconds left.
Charlie Harrison won the next faceoff and
Nicholas Ciampaglio finished on the doorstep off a pass from Porter with only four seconds left. It was the first career goal for the long stick midfielder.
The late burst put any questions about the result to bed. Porter, Williamson, and
Nicholas Fanelli scored fourth quarter goals and Blum finished the game in net.
The Eagles (6-9, 2-3) are at Widener on Wednesday night for a game with significant post-season ramifications. Widener is 3-1 in the league and will host York this evening and will finish the year at Stevenson. The Eagles will close the regular season at Hood.
