MADISON, N.J.– A short-handed Eastern University men's volleyball team settled for a split in a pair of matches hosted by Drew University. The Eagles dropped a three-set decision to the host Rangers and bounced back to beat Neumann University in four sets.
Max Bagileo returned from injury to lead the Eagles with 23 kills on the day.
The Eagles (8-11) competed well with the host Rangers in dropping the opening set 25-23 but hit only .072 over the final two sets. Bagileo posted 11 kills while hitting on the right side.
Lucas Adam had six kills while hitting .357.
With
Andres Suarez Batista unable to go in the second match, the Eagles switched to a 5-1, and Bagileo switched to the left side for the first time in his collegiate career. He and
Jarred Barch each finished with 12 kills as the Eagles won the first two sets on the way to a four-set win.
The Eagles trailed 23-18 in the fourth set. Barch put away a kill for a sideout, and then Adam served the final six points of the match. The Eagles hit .237 as a team and
Chris Miller finished with 48 assists.
Josiah Cash had ten kills, four blocks, and two aces.
Symir Byrd recorded 12 digs while playing libero.
The Eagles will play at the University of Valley Forge on Monday and will travel to Hood College for a MAC contest next Wednesday.
