Men's Volleyball Rallies Past Patriots

PHOENIXVILLE, Pa. – With yet another new line-up, a short-handed Eastern University men's volleyball team won the final three sets to earn a four-set win at the University of Valley Forge. The Eagles (9-11) had four players reach double-figures in kills and hit .340 as a team in the win.

Even with the make-shift line-up, the Eagles built a 22-17 lead in the opening set, but a new serve-receive group ran into issues late in the set, and the host Patriots scored nine of the final eleven points of the set to grab a 1-0 lead. The Eagles hit .444, but they had seven first-set serving errors and the hosts hit an equally impressive .389.

The Eagles had another six service errors in the second set, but they got a boost late in the set when Aiden Alfaro came on to break a run of service errors. Josiah Cash pounded out a kill for a 23-20 lead and a Valley Forge hitting error gave the Eagles a set point. The Patriots pulled to within a point at 24-23, but Max Bagileo put away a kill to win the set and even the match at a set apiece.

With Connor Tucholski leading the way in the frame, the Eagles hit .317 in barreling trough the third set. Tucholski had six kills on seven swings as the Eagles won 25-16. The Eagles had four blocks and only three service errors in the set.

The Eastern offense was even more efficient in winning the fourth set, 25-19. The Eagles hit .474 with 11 kills and only two hitting errors. Lucas Adam had four of his ten kills in the fourth. Adam led the Eastern defense with 11 digs.

For the match, Tucholski and Cash each had 12 kills and Bagileo had 11. Symir Byrd finished with eight digs in filling in as libero. Chris Miller had 36 assists.

The Eagles will hope to get some players healthy before traveling to Hood for a MAC test on Wednesday.
